Three Easy Tips for Organizing a Messy Home
One of the worst things about winter is being stuck inside all of the time. Especially after the holidays, it’s really easy to start realizing how much junk you have in your home and how disorganized thing actually are. If you’re really wanting to get a jump on spring cleaning, there’s no time like the present to start organizing your home. Here are three tips for doing it.
1. Purge
The first thing you need to do when you’re organizing your home is purge the non essentials. You should make three piles: one for things you need to keep, one for things you need to donate, and one for things that need to be thrown away. Be really honest with yourself about which pile things belong in and stick to your decisions. While you’re going through all of your things, take stock of what you own so when it comes time to reorganize you’ll know what you have.
2. Look into Storage Unit Rentals
Another tip for having a well-organized home is to rent a storage unit. Self storage units are good for large bulky items that you don’t want to store at the home. This can be things like antique furniture that you’re holding onto for a relative or an old car taking up space in your garage. This will free up space in your home and storage space on your property for things you need more regular access to than the things you would store in self storage units.
3. Reorganize
After you’ve cleared your home of all the things you’re going to donate and the things that need to be thrown away and have moved anything you need to to a storage unit, it’s time to start reorganizing. You should have a pretty good idea of what you actually own, so it’s time to start grouping like items and finding a home for each one of them.
