The Ultimate Shed Buying Guide
Buying sheds and garages is something that people usually do when they need more usable space on their property for storage or recreation. It seems like a simple enough decision — you go to a store, you pick out a shed, you bring it home. Right? Not exactly. Shopping for sheds can be pretty straightforward but there are few big decisions you’ll have to make. Here are three of them.
1. Custom vs. Pre-built?
One of the first things you’re going to need to think about it whether you want to have a custom build or a pre-built shed. Of course, you need to consider what the main use of the shed or garage is going to be — will it be used for storing bulky items or recreation? From there, you should think about the dimensions and whether or not you’re going to want glass windows or shelving units installed in the structure. Custom sheds are going to be able to fit your needs better but may be a little pricier.
2. Metal, Plastic, or Wooden?
Another thing you need to consider when you’re shopping for sheds and garages is what material it should be made of. This sort of depends on what you’re storing, the weather it’s protecting from, and the aesthetic look you’re going for. If you’re looking for a durable garage, you might opt for a metal material, but small sheds often look cuter when wooden.
3. What Kind of Foundation?
This one is really important. Once you’ve decided on the dimensions of the shed or garage and what material its going to be constructed from, you need to think about the kind of foundation you’re going to need. This isn’t usually necessary if you buy a pre-built shed since they usually come with some sort of foundation, but for ones that don’t you’ll need to put one in. Even small sheds need a foundation if they’re meant to be permanent structures.
