Three Springtime Care Tips for Garden Sheds

When it comes to spring cleaning, some homeowners don’t think about all of the things that need to get done outside of the home. However, it’s important to give special attention to any outbuildings on your property, especially if they are structures you intend to use like a shed or garage. Here are a few important spring cleaning tips for making sure your garden shed is in good shape.

1. Clean up the outside.
It’s important to clean up around the outside of a garden shed, especially if it’s constructed of wood. Rake any leaves and debris that have collected around the base of your shed, because it can trap moisture and, over time, lead to rot. The perimeter around a shed is a really easy place for leaves and things to accumulate, so it’s essential to remove any build up.

2. Organize and clean.
Garden sheds are usually small sheds, so it’s really important that they stay clean and organized on the inside. Go through all of your tools, pots, and seeds, and get rid of anything that has grown mold or that you haven’t used in over a year. Moldy seeds are basically unusable and won’t yield anything if you plant them. Purging all of the things you don’t need will make more space in a small shed for the things you do.

3. Reroof and stain.
Some custom sheds are already stained or painted when they’re built, but if your shed has weathered a few years without a fresh stain, it’s helpful to put a new one on to help it endure. It’s also worth checking the roof of the shed to see if it sustained any damage from snow, wind, and ice during the colder months. If it has, reroofing is important for keeping more damage from occurring.
