Giving Back While Paying Forward Works for Everyone

Red cross clothing pick up

Some people think that offering their time for the less fortunate or attempting to make a difference in the world requires sacrificing the comfort of their lives or making a big drastic move or gesture. But everyone can make an impact on someone else’s life, even if it is just one moment in one person’s life. By making used clothing donations at places like a Red Cross donation center, the possessions that one person no longer needs can come to the aid of someone who may not be able to afford it otherwise. When you donate clothing and other things for the homeless and those living day-to-day, everyone wins. You clean out your closet and help someone in need, the person on the r (more…)

Choosing a Custom Amish Gazebo

Amish garden shed

Amish furniture first gained popularity in the 1920s. It was during this time that what was known as American Folk Art found its way into the mainstream. Among the myriad of issues that beg attention in today’s world, it is often hard to choose what causes are easiest or most practical to lend your efforts to. Your Good Deed for the Day Doesn’t Have to be a Miracle!

Charity clothing pickup

You don’t have to be a war veteran to be a hero, but that doesn’t mean the people who serve in the military aren’t! Men and women serving in the military sometimes give their lives for the sake of a country and its people. These men and women, soldiers and veterans, all serve their countries with bravery and honor. Because of the risks these people take, they are often given honors and awards for their service, such as the purple heart.

But what is a purple heart in the military? What does it mean? The purple heart is a uniquely American honor given in the name of the President to soldiers who have been wounded or killed in combat. This honor is one of the highest that can be bestowed upon a veteran, especially if they were wounded while protecting another soldier.

You may be asking yourself what a p (more…)

Replacement gas log

Fire was a huge development in our evolution as it protected us from predators, illuminated the darkness, and changed the way our ancestors ate. Over countless generations we also learned the dangers posed by fire if left uncontrolled. Here are three ways that controlled fire is still used by modern people to warm, cook, and entertain.

Burn Baby, Burn

A fire pit is perhaps one of the easiest ways to utilize outdoor space. It provides an area for friends and families to get away from all of the screens in our lives. Something about fire draws people together and connects us with our ancestors who did the same. Whether building (more…)

Why You Should Rent Rather Than Buy

Apartments in philly

The pressure to buy a home rather than rent can be overwhelming. Yet few realize that renting can be not only a more economical option but also a logical choice. Research has found that people who rent can save about $560 every month over buying a house. The same study noted that a house is a depreciating asset and offered the example of investing in a $100 house in 1985. The study found that it would be worth $293 today, whereas the same $100 invested in stocks would be worth almost four times as much at $1,146.

From renting beautiful apartment buildings to a single-family house, renting really can save you money. One study estimated that almost 20% of house buyers could have saved money by renting instead. Another Harvard University study noted that “renting made better financial sense than owning” (more…)
